Green Malabar spinach (Basella alba)



Green Malabar spinach @ Remayung Hijau is commonly planted in the backyard gardens of many families in Malaysia, where it is widely used as a leaf vegetable. 

Bayam Malabar Hijau @ the chinese called it as King of veggie (sayur raja) is a fast-growing creeping vine that likes hot sun. 

Its green and thick heart-shaped leaves are glossy, semi-succulent, mucilaginous texture and have a mild flavour. 

Malabar spinach is often stir-fries with garlic, chili peppers, belacan or oyster sauce. 

The succulent mucilage is known to be rich in soluble fiber and has attracted a lot research on it. You may read the medicinal values of Malabar spinach here, here and here


Well, Malabar spinach is very easy to grow, highly nutritious and have medicinal values. Why not grow them now?
